Moot Court Room in Houston Hall

We are excited about the opportunity to hold a meeting of the Inn “on the road” at Howard. It is only 15 to 20 minutes north of our regular meeting location at the Howard Markey Building, and we hope that you take that extra time to come up to Howard and participate in what promises to be a really exciting program on “Market Forces and IP: An Intangible Walk Down Wall Street” that Mike McCabe and Pupilage Group 4 have worked hard to assemble and polish.

The honored guest for the evening will be Mr. James E. Malackowski, an internationally recognized leader in the field of Intellectual Property (“IP”) management and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Tomo, LLC, an integrated Intellectual Capital Merchant Banc firm. Among his many achievements, Mr. Malackowski is a Past President of the Licensing Executives Society USA and Canada, Inc.

Our program for the evening is entitled “Market Forces and IP: An Intangible Walk Down Wall Street.” This program will include a panel discussion on the growing recognition of the investment community on the significance of intellectual property assets to shareholder value.

The discussion will include corporations’ fiduciary responsibilities to investors relating to IP and new ways in which Wall Street is viewing IP. Panelists will include, in addition to the honored guest, John Squires, Chief Patent Counsel, Goldman Sachs & Co. and David Silverman, Chief Operating Officer, The Intellectual Property Exchange International, Inc.

The logistics for this meeting will be as follows:

Welcome and Check-In - 5:45 p.m.
Refreshments - 5:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
Inn Program - 6:15 p.m. – 7:15 p.m.
Heavy Hors d’oeuvres and Wine Following the program

The Howard Law School campus is near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Van Ness Street in northwest Washington DC. The campus is easily accessible by Metro, via the Van Ness stop on the Red Line, and parking will also be available in the Howard Law School parking lot. An attached map shows the relative locations of the Connecticut and Van Ness intersection, the parking lot, and Houston Hall. Directions by Metro and by car are as follows:

Take Rock Creek Parkway (which becomes Beach Drive) through Rock Creek Park to Tilden. Turn left (going west). Continue to Connecticut Avenue. Turn right on Connecticut. (Alternatively, you can take Connecticut Avenue all the way up). Take Connecticut two blocks to Van Ness Street NW. Turn right (going east) onto Van Ness. Follow Van Ness to the end and take the first left off the traffic circle. Proceed past the security kiosk, past the buildings on your right, and up past the law library to the parking lot. Park anywhere other than the Dean’s parking place.

Parking is free, however, it is very limited so you are strongly encouraged to use the Metro. Please take a ticket when you enter the garage. We will give you a sticker to put on the ticket at the meeting. If you hand the ticket with the sticker on it to the attendant as you leave the garage, you will not be charged for the parking.

The Inn of Court meeting will be held in the Moot Court Room in Houston Hall, which is entered from the stone plaza you drove by on the way to the parking lot. Go up one floor to the basement (you enter on the subbasement level) and follow directions to the Moot Court Room.

Take the Metro Red Line to the Van Ness stop. The Van Ness Metro exits are actually on Connecticut Avenue and Veazey; you should take the East Exit and walk South (towards the Giant and the gas station) for two very short blocks to Van Ness; if you turn left on to Van Ness and walk along the right hand side of the path, you will walk on to the law school grounds. Houston Hall is on the right. Go up one floor to the basement (you enter on the subbasement level) and follow directions to the Moot Court Room.

Please submit your reservation no later than Monday, January 14, 2008, by emailing your reservation to

In addition, please remember to note whether you plan to stay for dinner and if you will be bringing a guest. If you plan to bring a guest, please include your guest’s name.
