Biography

Lawrence R. Baca is the Deputy Director of the Office of Tribal Justice, United States Department of Justice (DOJ). He has also served in the DOJ for 32 years as a senior trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division. His bar activities include being elected president of the National Native American Bar Association three times, serving as chair of the Indian Law Section, Federal Bar Association (FBA) for 20 years and three terms as chair of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. He is currently national treasurer of the FBA.

A 1976 graduate of Harvard Law School, his undergraduate degree is in American History and Culture from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Professor Baca has previously taught courses at UCSB, Harvard University and American University Washington College of Law.
