Co-Teach Patent Practice and Procedure
Biography
During his 30 years of practice, George F. Pappas has served as lead counsel in more than 300 cases, having appeared in federal and state courts throughout the United States. Since 1990, he has been lead counsel in more than 100 patent cases for US and foreign companies, often coordinating with patent counsel in Germany, Japan, and Canada.
Mr. Pappas is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and Chairman of its Complex Litigation Committee. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only, and only to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and those whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Membership in the College cannot exceed 1% of the total lawyer population of any state or province. Mr. Pappas is also a member of the American Law Institute and serves on the Consultative Group to the publication entitled: Intellectual Property: Principles Governing Jurisdiction, Choice of Law, and Judgments in Transnational Disputes.
In April, 2007, Mr. Pappas was also named one of the “Ten Top Business Litigators in DC” by Legal Times, and was subsequently recognized, on October 23, 2007, as “The Top Business Litigator in DC” by Legal Times.
In 2005, he was named a “Top Washington Lawyer” by The Washingtonian in the field of Intellectual Property. He was included in the 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 editions of The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA 2006, 2007, and 2008 and Chambers Global 2007, 2008, and 2009 as a leading attorney in the area of Intellectual Property. Mr. Pappas has also been named a Washington DC Super Lawyer in the area of Intellectual Property for 2007.
At the invitation of the Federal Judicial Center (FJC) beginning in 1996, Mr. Pappas has presented programs on patent law issues at FJC workshops for district judges of the Fourth (twice), Fifth (twice), Sixth (twice), Seventh and Ninth Circuits and at 24 FJC National Workshops for federal district and magistrate judges.
In 2001, he was appointed by Chief Justice Rehnquist to serve as a member of the District Judge Education Advisory Committee for the Federal Judicial Center, and was reappointed in 2004 to serve through 2007.
In 1993, Mr. Pappas and U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis created and continue to serve as Co-Chairmen of a national program entitled Trial of a Patent Case which is sponsored by the American Law Institute–American Bar Association (ALI-ABA) Committee on Continuing Professional Education and has become a permanent annual course offering.
He also serves as a member of the U.S. District Court of Delaware Judges’ Intellectual Property Advisory Committee and the Court’s Electronic Discovery Committee.
