Character and Fitness Notification
All applicants to Howard University School of Law are informed via this notice that beyond graduating from an ABA accredited law school and passing an exam testing knowledge of the state law in which a person intends to practice; jurisdictions (also known as states) require a character and fitness review. The character and fitness review is an evaluation of an applicant’s past and present state of personal and professional development to determine the overall judgment and moral capacity to practice law. The applicant’s obligation to report misconduct or disciplinary action is immediate and continuing. That obligation begins with your application to Howard and continues throughout your matriculation and career. Applicants are encouraged to investigate the specific rules and responsibilities of jurisdictions of interest for detailed information and guidance.
