Howard Law Students to participate in the Sixth Annual Alternative Spring Break

March 13-18, 2011

Students at the Howard University School of Law are returning to New Orleans for the sixth year in a row to participate in the Alternative Spring Break. Students will once again take the 22 hour bus ride to New Orleans, to spend a week helping underserved populations, who continue to suffer the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Last year, the students devoted service to seven projects in a five-day span. This year, their efforts will center around juvenile justice, public defense, fair housing, and education.

“The experience they gain is invaluable,” said Assistant Dean Jo Ann Fax, who will accompany the students on the journey south. She said that each year, there is more interest in the Alternative Spring Break program than the year before.

This year, more than 60 law students are expected to participate in the week-long program. Tax deductible contributions are accepted and can be made payable to Howard University School of Law.
