Ron Dellums to deliver the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Commemoration Lecture
On Wednesday, February 19, Ron Dellums will deliver the 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Commemoration Lecture, Remember! Celebrate! Act!: King’s Legacy of Peace For Our World.
The program will begin promptly at 12:15 p.m. and will be held in the Moot Court Room of Houston Hall, Building 355. Since leaving Congress, Ron Dellums has been president of an international management company and a leading spokesman on the tragedy of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa and throughout the world. He was Chair of President Clinton’s Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS and most recently, Mayor of Oakland, California, from 2007 to 2011.
In 1967, Dellums was elected to the Berkeley City Council and in 1970 to the U.S. House of Representatives. He represented Oakland, Berkeley, and surrounding areas, in the Congress for 28 years, rising to become Chair of the House DC Committee and then Chair of the House Armed Services Committee.
