Charles Hamilton Houston National Moot Court Team
Each year, the Charles Hamilton Houston Moot Court team, on behalf of Howard University School of Law, hosts our annual Moot Court Competition in honor of the Honorable Luke Charles Moore. He matriculated from Howard University, with honors, and later earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law School. His honors include serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia; being appointed Chief U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia by President Kennedy in 1962; and being appointed to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia by President Nixon in 1972.
The Luke Charles Moore Invitational (“LCMI”) is one of the few civil rights moot court competitions in the country. Participants have the opportunity to argue these important issues inside the nation’s capital at Howard University School of Law, coined as the birthplace of the civil rights movement.
The 2009 problem will focus on whether racial considerations should be permitted when assessing potential adoptive parents seeking to adopt a child from a different race or ethnicity.
