Professor Mabry (JD., 1983, Howard University School of Law; LLM., 1996, New York University School of Law) has been a full-time law teacher since 1993. Presently, she teaches Adoption Law, Family Law, Civil Procedure and Pretrial Litigation at Howard University School of Law. In May 2010, she received the Warren Rosmarin Professor of Law Award for Excellence in Teaching and Service. She is the Founder and Director of the Howard Family Law Certificate Program that was created in 2010.
Professor Mabry also has taught full-time at New York University School of Law, Washington and Lee University School of Law, and West Virginia University College of Law. She has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Florida College of Law, Syracuse University College of Law and the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa.
In March 2013, the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, the U.S. Department of Stateís Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board approved her as a Fulbright Specialist.
Professor Mabry serves as a member of the Law School Admission Councilís Board of Trustees and Chairs its Diversity Committee (2013-2015). She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law and Children and the Law Sections of the American Association of Law Schools. She is a volunteer mediator for the Superior Court of the District of Columbiaís Family Division. She also serves on the Superior Courtís Domestic Relations Subcommittee-Family Implementation and the Superior Courtís GAL Standards Committee (2013). She is a former Editor for the Family Court Review and a former member of the Citizens Review Board for Children who was appointed by former Maryland Governor Ehrlich.
Professor Mabry has made presentations on domestic and international family law issues in several states in the United States. In addition, as a member of the International Family Law Society, she has spoken to international audiences in China, France, Italy, and the Netherlands. In 2012, she visited Havana, Cuba with a delegation of Family Law judges and attorneys to exchange information about contemporary Family Law issues and to build alliances between attorneys, professors and judges in the United States and Cuba.
Professor Mabry is lead co-author of Adoption Law: Theory, Policy and Practice (2d. ed 2010), a legal textbook that was one of W. S. Hein & Co.ís bestsellers. She is an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She has written more than twenty law review articles and essays focusing on a variety of issues with an emphasis on childrenís rights and adoption law. She has been a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association since 1983. In 2012 her name was added to the 2012 Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll for more than 50 hours of service as a guardian ad litem in a child custody dispute.
She was Student Articles Editor of the Howard Law Journal. After she was graduated from Howard University School of Law, she was a judicial law clerk at state and federal courts in the District of Columbia and Detroit, Michigan. She practiced law in the District of Columbia at Crowell & Moring, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, and the Federal Railroad Administration.
