Biography

Michael DeHaven Newsom has served in the positions of Assistant Dean for Admissions and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Professor Newsom joined the law faculty in 1975 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1979. He was promoted to Professor of Law in 1982.

Professor Newsom’s teaching and research interests include Trusts, Wills, and Estates; Real Property; and the law of Church and State. He is currently engaged in writing articles on Prohibition and Jurisprudence and the role of theology and race in both.

Professor Newsom received the Distinguished Faculty Author Award from the President and Provost of the University in 2001 and 2002 He serves on the Committee on Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure and the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid. Along with Professors Spencer H. Boyer, Henry H. Jones, Warner Lawson, and Richard Thornell, Professor Newsom founded the Silver Forum, an organization of the senior members of the law faculty.
