RE: Katrina Victims
Dear Mr. Attorney General and Mr. Secretary:
I write on behalf of the students, faculty and staff of the Howard University School of Law to offer our assistance in addressing some of the difficult issues of social justice that have arisen in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
We anticipate that a number of interrelated law and policy matters will confront you and the citizens of affected storm areas. Many of the victims of the hurricane will be unable to afford legal assistance. We volunteer to provide that type of assistance. Also government agencies may need help in screening cases to make certain that no adverse action is taken against people who acted because of their need to survive as opposed to those who may have acted motivated by opportunism. The myriad of social justice matters to be addressed is hard to fully describe at this time. However, because of our experience in the past, we know they will be presented and we know there will be a need for people with expertise and sensitivity to address them.
The Howard University School of Law community stands ready to assist at this time. Please contact me soon.
